Snekeye: Board Game
Board games have lost its popularity on these days, people mostly preffer to play games on smartphones or computers. The common board games are mostly the drinking games that students play. For me personally I still enjoy playing games physically and there are also many people like me, there are even communuties that are just grouped to play board games.

To create a board game first thing that I start thinking was the rules and how to win the game. I’ve made a research about other board games on the market also had some information from my board game freak friends. It needed to be simple and understandable since I wanted this game to be played by anyone.

After setting up the rules I had demonstrated a couple of turns by myself to see if it’s working. I always focused on the main idea which is the non-speaking communication of the game while creating it. For that reason I’ve added many cards and effects that making players to get interracted with eachother.
How to play?

Game has many similarities with the Monopoly but the play style is very different. The game is played with 4 players and without teams. To win the game players need to get 3 of the same coin card for 4 different colors. When a player has 3 of the same color coin in the hand, they need to be put on the table and revealed for all players. Any other cards in players hand must be hidden from others. Coin cards can only be gained from “Bank of Shinies” cards so all the drawn cards from this set of cards should be hidden by other players.

Bank of Shinies set also includes some trap cards that players gonna need. With other special cards players can steal cards from other players but since all cards in hand are hidden, they might pick a trap card and even loose more cards this way.

The other set of cards is called “Wheel of Luck”. This set has good and bad cards mixed. Some cards may allow you to steal cards from other players and some cards could make you loose cards, it’s just luck.

Players start the game from the “START” point and roll a dice on each turn. Depending on their roll they move that much square through clockwise. Every square has different auras so players needs to check what is the aure or the effect of the square that they are in.
Many of the squares will make players to draw cards. Only the Bank cards are the ones that players will ever hold in their hands, for Wheel cards, they must be put back face down in the bottom of the set after the effects are done.

When Bank cards ran out, every player needs to put one coin card face down back to the set of Bank. After it ran out again players need to repeat the same. If any player draws a trap card in this situation, the player who put that trap card back would be punished with puting back a set of card back in the middle

Card types

There are five different card types for players to easily understant what kind of card they draw. These are Colletion, Trap, Challange, Loose and Boost. Types of the cards are written on downside of the cards.

Collection: These are the cards that help you to win the game, they are basicly the coin cards. Only the Bank card set includes Collection Cards.

Trap: Trap cards are to fool other players when they try to steal from you. They only appear in Bank card set.

Challange: Challange cards can be good or bad for you, it’s like a gamble. Player who draws a Challange card chooses another player to complete the challange.
The winner won’t gain anything in most of the case but also won’t loose anything, for the looser side it’s a bit sad. Challange cards only included n Wheel set of cards.

Loose: As it could be understanded from the name, these cards makes the player to loose some shinies. Loose cards can only be found in Wheel card set.

Boost: Boost cards are the lucky cards for the players that are only included in Wheel card set. They give some good benefits to players to win the game

Design

The main reason to create these cards is to make player get interacted eachother without speaking. As it’s forbidden to speak facial expressions would be more in use. also the eye communication.

I imagined stealing situations as when a player thinks which card to pick the other one would start using eyes to fool them. The tactics in this game are really important. Also added 2 speaking cards for players. The reason for that is when another player would be allowed to speak, the only other way the other players can respond is hand gestures, facial expressions and eyes. In my thoughts the reaction will be more exxagerated with the helps of these cards. The artstyle of the game is inspired from famous PC game "Cupheads".
Daily Life
I had this brief when I applied for the master program at Arts University of Bournemouth. They gave me this small project to checkout my hand drawing skills and also to learn a bit more about my life. The brief was called "Daily Life" and they simply asked for me to visualize the things I do daily in my own style.

When I recieved this brief it was the Covid-19 days and as like most of the people it was depressing for me too. But my art style is more cartoonish so I tried to make it look cute even though when I was having a devastated mood.

I characterize myself as a monkey, sometimes super energetic and sometimes more stagnant but mostly unpredictable. I used to love wearing a cap so monkey with a cap seemed like a great idea for a cartoon character of me.

When I was illustrating a daily life of me, I've realized I mostly drew the problems around my surroundings in those covid times.

I was able to get a scholarship from the Arts University of Bournemouth with this project.

Escape Book
Escape book is the portable verson of the escape rooms. The system of the book is the same as the escape rooms.

Normally in escape rooms there are hosts and gamemasters to explain the story and to put you in the atmosphere but in here host is not a person, it’s a book. The first pages are where the brief is given so the pages follow up normally on briefing part. Story is given in that part in order for reader to understand what kind of a situation they are in. There are also some hints given on briefing.

The hints and clues for the book means the pages that reader needs to search. This books page system is not like a regular book instead of the briefing part. Reader jumps through the pages to find the way out. Not every clue would take the reader to the final sript, there are some some clues has dead ends and reader needs to go back to follow another clue in order to progress. It might seem easy but when a book has hundreds of pages and %90 of those pages directs the reader to dead ends, it won’t be that easy
The pages needed to be red to catch up a usefull clue. Reader can’t just skip into random pages and search becouse of the wrong clues.

To search through pages reader needs a magnifying glass and for this kind of a book it’s the smartphones. With the help of an app the pages would reveal the secret scripts and that’s how the reader reaches the clues. This is the AR part of the book, AR apps are able to recognize the shapes and icons to replace with the image that I use. Instead of image I use texts this way so it won’t be effecting the novel side of the book.
The main objective is to escape just like in the escape rooms but how do we escape from a book? The final script is the way out, that’s where the reader learns about the mystery. The last script could be on any page, it could be on page 348 or it even could be on the book cover.

On The Train

The story that I’ve created is inspired from a short story which is also called On The Train by Rebecca Cantrell. This is also a mysterious story by it self yet I’ve changed it into more fantasy-mystery type. Rebecca’s story also includes some ethnic and
religious exclusion from public. I didn’t wanted to use that kind of expressions in a game book.
The Eye Communication
This book was not build up just on the eye communication ways yet it also contains some of them as to find clues. There are many conversation scripts in the book with strangers from other wagons. In one of the wagon we try to communicate and ask questions to a man that cannot talk about the train and how to escape. On each questions he remains silence yet on last question he points the next wagon to us with his eyes.
Runia: Mobile Game
Runia is a color matching arcade game themed on magical visuals. We worked on this project as three friends from primary school. As friends who love to play games, we decided to create our own game on the most accessible platform, mobile.

The gameplay is pretty simple, for each level players should swipe and light all the runes before they ran out of moves. For each turn a random color will appear on the pallete which is at the top of the screen, players should swipe and color the runes depending on that color.

To add some more difficulty, we've also added special boxes and runes for different levels. For an example for runes, there are boxes that needed to be colored from two sides, their rune boxes designed two colored. We also added some steel boxes on certain levels to add more difficulty, they block the color passing through the other side while swiping.

The game has been released on Google Play Store for a couple of months with 50 levels yet we couldn't find any sponsor or financial support so it's no longer available to download or to play.

Speaker Headphones
This was one of my masters projects that I've done in AUB. The brief was to turn a functional object to a non-functional object, simply we needed to make a small change to make it loose it's funcionality and make it disturbing. The result of speaker headphones was just one of the examples that I found and the one I wanted to focus on. For the details of the project I would like to share the research I've done since that was the main purpose of the project.

When I was looking through the project I realized
there are even some object that already has no
funcionality at all, we mostly see these kind of
objects from Instagram ads. I preffered to call
these objects “seasonal” since only way to know
the existence of them is to see them in a ad from
a meme page or some other. Objects fo those
ads are mostly picked due to the popularities
and requairements yet they are mostly useless.
For an example recently I’ve started to see “snow
duck maker” ads a lot these days since it’s cold
and snowing in most of the countries, this object
basicly looks almost the same with a salad picker
and all it does is to make a duck shaped snow. There are plenty of objects like this and the funny thing is it seems like people like to buy this kind of stuff even they have almost no funcion.
Through my research the first thing I did was looking up for the objects that we daily use since we don’t really give much attention to them in our lives. There were so many options so I tried think how to disfuncion them as much as possible to experience the ways. From this method I’ve discovered that changing materials on many objets actually makes them loose their funcionalities. As an example changing the top part of the umbrella with the sponge would make it unable to be used in rain, the water will
fill the sponge and make it heavy and also it will start dripping. This method almost woks in every object since I wanted to try some other ways too.

The other method that I found is reversing some parts of the object, like for a scissors, changing the holding plastic part with the sharp metal part would make it loose its funcion since plastic cannot cut anything and metal might hurt the finger while using. I realized this method makes objects more uncomfortable and gives the disturbing look that I really wanted. I was trying to use this method on more objects that I daily use but then one day when I was going to university
with bus the idea came up.
Prototype

Headphones have a huge part in our lives, we use them almost everday while going to work, school or even when just walking. It’s been used for to listen music or to speak
to other people with the connection from the phone so for me to turning and headphone into a non-functional object, the sound should be heard by the other people around
and to make it loose even more funcinality the user should not hear it. Almost every headphones designed to cut the sound from outside as much as possible so basicly the idea is to reverse the music mechanism inside the headphone and that makes it a speaker. I’ve designed the model based
on Amazon’s basic headphones and added speaker on both sides. If the user likes to talk on a phone or just like to listen music, everyone around will hear except the user.

Depending on reverse method I needed to change some of the parts of the headphone, when I think on it I saw that the inside part of the headphones is just like a speaker with a cover around to protect the sound going out. Putting the speaker part inside to the outer part of an headphone would bascly turn this object into a speaker that you can carry on
your head. That really sound disturbing to me and also insted of making it completely unfunctional, it actually changes the funcion of the object and makes it unfunctional.
Scenario

For the scenario of this disturbing object, I choose to tell about a bus scene that headphones are used since that is where I got this idea;

"You went out from house to go to work and walk through the bus station. You wait for the bus and take out your headphones from your backpack since you like to listen some music for an enjoyable ride and while waiting that’s a good chance for preparation. After taking our headphones out you connect it to your phone and that’s just when the bus arrives. You get in the bus and make your payment for the ride and walk through the back seats as you see they are empthy and they were just a few people in the bus. Just
after sitting down you take your phone out again and play a song that you recently addicted with. The sound of your music is high yet you can’t hear properly becouse speaker parts are in outer side and the material of the headphones already covering your ears so you increase the volume even
more. One of the person sitting in fronter seats turn back and look at you weirdly and does an angry face, then he turns back again without saying anything, an act like wants you to do something."

In conclusion, I’ve illustrated the product by using the Amazons basic headphones models and added the speaker part to the outher ear parts. Used gray and black colors on it to show the simplicity and the feeling of a daily object. Made the background in simple grey and added a reflection of the product on the ground.
